Christ, The Cross and Calvary are Key
There are those, the scholarly elite and others who out of spiritual ignorance or having been dulled in the brain by psychology and other humanist vain philosophies of man say that one should not make too much of the Cross and Calvary, or the Blood because the focus must always be Christ. I agree that the anchor must always be Christ, but how do you have Christ as the anchor, if you can't appreciate the magnitude of what that means, by way of the Cross and Calvary. Without that Cross and Calvary there would be no Christianity, no redemption, or salvation, but seems these dimwitted souls don't get that.
When the first animal was killed to cover up humanity, to cover up their shame, transgressions, the animal sacrifices in the Old Testament, and other symbols which I will get into in later studies of the chapters of the Bible, it was a symbol of the shedding of blood on the way to that Cross where he gave us back the authority humanity had given to Satan. No part of the life or ministry of Christ is to be diminished, but without the death at the Cross, his last words "It is finished", the veil between God and sinner being torn down, his going to Abraham's Bosom to redeem the believing souls from Satan's grasp and resurrecting, it would all be worthless to us. It was that process of going to Calvary, the suffering along the way, and then giving up his life for us, so we could have eternal life, that broke all the bondage and authority Satan could have over us, once we accepted Christ, believing in God and accepting the Holy Spirit for sanctification. Without Calvary and the Cross no victory, no crushing of the serpent, so to say that one can make too much of the Cross is idiotic. Unless one understands the enormity of sin, the weight of the penalty Christ had to pay at the Cross, and what that means, you can't ever truly make Christ your anchor, truly repent, truly give yourself, your life etc... over to the Trinity, the power of the Holy Spirit, full baptism of fire of Pentecost. Paul is right that the Cross must never be made of null effect, for if it is then our entire salvation is thrown out the window, for if we do not understand the value of "It is finished" at the Cross, all that means, then we will not be able in Christ, through the Holy Spirit to have victory over Satan and the patterns of sin, over lawlessness.
One can't make too much of the Cross, of Calvary, what Christ in his amazing love for us did there, accomplished there, of sin, of the sin nature, judgement, repentance, mercy, heaven and hell. Not if you truly love mankind, you can't. To those who say "So and so, you make too much of Calvary, of the Cross, focus on Jesus." I say to their majesty "your ignorance astounds me. Without the Cross and Calvary, the tearing of the veil, the words it is finished, there would be no salvation for anyone. Ignorant man/woman." That is what I would say.
Shalom and Amen
